It is forecasted that sea will be rough near shore and the low lying areas (Udupi, Murudeswar, Gokarna, Mashem) may experience surges (gushing of sea water into these areas) intermittently during 14:30 hours (IST) of 21-08-2019 to 23:30 hours (IST) of 23-08-2019 due to the effect of high period (15-20 sec) swell waves, having 2.2-2.8 m height.

It is forecasted that sea will be rough near shore and the low lying areas (Udupi, Murudeswar, Gokarna, Mashem) may experience surges (gushing of sea water into these areas) intermittently during 14:30 hours (IST) of 21-08-2019 to 23:30 hours (IST) of 23-08-2019 due to the effect of high period (15-20 sec) swell waves, having 2.2-2.8 m height. The fishermen and coastal population are advised to be cautious on the following during this period: 1. There is a possibility of surging of waves during the high tide times, in the low lying areas of the coasts during this period. 2. Boats plying very near to the coasts may be avoided during this period as the coastal regions will experience its effect more. 3. The boats may be anchored at a fair distance from each other, to avoid collision and damage. 4. The water based recreational activity at the coast be suspended during these events. 5. Taking out the boats from the shore to the sea and back can be avoided. 6. The effects of these events in the open ocean is likely to be minimal. SPECIAL WEATHER BULLETIN: Day 1 (20-08-2019) to Day 3 (22.8.2019) : Strong winds from southwesterly direction speed reaching 45-55 kmph likely to prevail over Southwest Arabian Sea. Day 1(20-08-2019): Strong winds from southwesterly direction speed reaching 45-55 kmph likely to prevail over Southeast Bay of Bengal. Day 2(21-08-2019) & Day 4(23-08-2019): Strong winds from southwesterly direction speed reaching 45-55 kmph likely to prevail over Southwest Bay of Bengal. Day 3(22-08-2019) & Day 4(23-08-2019): Strong winds from southwesterly direction speed reaching 45-55 kmph likely to prevail over Central Bay of Bengal. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas for above mentioned period.
